Land Securities team up with the British Heart Foundation

Published:  09 August, 2010

Land Securities is helping the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to fight heart disease by running a campaign in its shopping centres to raise money for people affected by the disease – the UK’s biggest killer.

BHF volunteers will be encouraging shoppers in 20 Land Securities’ shopping centres to donate clothes, shoes, accessories, CDs, toys and books during the two week scheme, known as the Big Donation.

The donated items, left at Drop Points within the shopping centres, will then be sold in local BHF shops.

Nick Peel, head of property management at Land Securities said: “BHF shops are located in the majority of Land Securities’ shopping centres so it made sense to support one of our key retailers and help them to launch their new campaign which will save lives across the UK. The Big Donation will give our shoppers a great reason to recycle which is a big priority for our shopping centres who aim to increase these levels year on year.”

The campaign started today at The Bridges, Sunderland and will take place at other centres throughout August and September.

As BHF area manager, Nigel Bullock explained: “Everyone at the British Heart Foundation, from our volunteers to our cardiac nurses, work tirelessly in the fight against heart disease. We rely on the support of local people to continue helping heart patients across the region. If everyone in Sunderland fills up a bag they will be helping to save lives in their community. It really is as simple as that.”
