Europe’s leading designer outlet retailer McArthurGlen is set to help further the career of budding fashion designers through its Spirit of Fashion Awards in partnership with the Royal College of Art (RCA).
The awards were designed to nurture emerging fashion talent and are open to alumni of the RCA, which boasts Christopher Bailey of Burberry and milliner Philip Treacy as past students.
The awards will be judged by McArthurGlen and the RCA together with figureheads from the world of fashion, and three entrants selected from a shortlist, will be announced as winners in autumn 2010.
The recipients will receive full marketing and PR support from McArthurGlen during a year-long partnership in which they could potentially see one of their creations put into production, for which they will get a percentage from the sales.
Professor Wendy Dagworthy, head of school of fashion and textiles at the RCA, said: ‘This is a very exciting opportunity for RCA fashion alumni to access highly experienced professionals to help them grow their businesses. We are delighted to be in a position to help our graduates and are greatly appreciative of the support of McArthurGlen, especially in terms of their expertise and experience in fashion retailing.”
McArthurGlen has seven designer outlet centres across the UK and a further 12 in continental Europe, working alongside over 750 international fashion brands.
