Primark lodges Edinburgh application

A detailed planning application has now been submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council for a new flagship store on Princes Street.
The retailer is applying to open a 75,000 sq ft outlet on the site of the former Marks & Spencer building at 91-93 Princes Street - which would provide the company with its 18th store in Scotland.
Primark worked with Edinburgh-based 3DReid to come up with a design which helps fulfil the 'string of pearls' concept for Princes Street, set out in a comprehensive Development Framework.
With new shop fronts to both Princes Street and Rose Street, the development will promote footfall between the two.
The 75,000sqft building has been designed to respect the scale and character of a valuable World Heritage Site and the Edinburgh New Town Conservation Area, as well as provide the city with a much-needed catalyst for the retail-led regeneration of Princes Street. For the first time, the public will now have access to the upper levels of the building, which will command spectacular and iconic views across Waverley Valley to Edinburgh Castle.
Primark expects to open the store in Autumn/Winter 2011.
