Smyths in trio of deals with British Land

British Land has completed a 43,000-sq ft triple deal with Smyths Toys as the Irish retailer expands in the North West.

Smyths has taken 15,000 sq ft at the British Land-owned Centre Retail Park in Oldham; 15,000 sq ft at the Hercules Unit Trust’s Mostyn Champneys in Llandudno and 13,000 sq ft at the New Mersey Shopping Park in Speke, owned by Speke Unit Trust, a 50:50 joint venture between Hercules Unit Trust and Bank of Ireland.

British Land Retail worked closely with Smyths to create the three units, including obtaining planning permission and amalgamating two units for the toy retailer at Oldham. Ben Grose, head of retail asset management at British Land, said: “Smyths Toys’ commitment to three British Land assets highlights both our ability as asset managers to understand and meet occupiers’ needs, and the quality of our portfolio.”

Smyths Toys currently has 14 stores in Britain, six in Northern Ireland and 20 in the Republic of Ireland.
