Food feedback

Coverpoint’s Jonathan Doughty serves up his regular shopping centre foodservice review. This month he visits The Real Greek at Westfield London

On a bright and sunny day I found myself at Westfield London, with my nieces, during the school half term holiday. I left the choice of restaurant up to them and, being 8 and 10 years old, I expected the usual pizza or pasta decision. Having forgotten that they spent their early years in London, I should not have been surprised when they asked to ‘go Greek’. We sought out and quickly found The Real Greek, located in the cluster of casual dining restaurants on the Southern Terrace.

One of the Clapham House brands, The Real Greek is less successful in terms of unit numbers than the company’s Gourmet Burger Kitchen brand, but that’s unsurprising given the food type.

Being a Saturday, we had a short wait at the front door and then were shown swiftly to one of the elevated booth seats to the rear of the restaurant. The interior design of the unit is very clever and created a nice atmosphere for us, separated from other diners, but still very much part of the activity.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the standard of service we received. I can quite honestly say that the attention we received from our server was outstanding. A fine balance of humour, gentle suggestion and entertainment with the children absolutely made our meal. We chose to have mixed meze to start and then a number of main course items all of which were delivered with remarkable speed and quality. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the finest Greek food I’ve ever eaten, but it was extremely good value for money, with a total bill of £59.65, and overall this was a really good experience.

Looking at the other people in the restaurant at the same time as us they were also getting a great experience.
