Charles Tyrwhitt launches 50-store requirement

Charles Tyrwhitt, Britain’s biggest mail order shirt company, has unveiled plans to heighten its presence on the high street by opening as many as 50 stores across the country.

The Jermyn Street shirtmaker currently has 12 outlets, including five in London and one each in New York and Paris. Now, on the back of impressive sales up 30 per cent year-on-year to £65m, it is to more than quadruple its physical store portfolio with a requirement for 50 more stores.

The expansion programme begins in Bluewater in July and a revamped flagship store in Jermyn Street will be unveiled in February 2011.

Founder Nick Wheeler said the business was going from strength to strength. “We have simply had a phenomenal year, despite the recession, and it is vital that we build on our success,” he said. The company will look to open in locations such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol and Cardiff, as well as Bath, Guildford and Tunbridge Wells.
