Phil Steele takes over at Eldon Square

Published:  28 May, 2010

One of the biggest jobs in centre management, the post of general manager of Eldon Square in Newcastle, has gone to Phil Steele, who moves from The Bridges in Sunderland.

Steele's retail career began in 1983 with BHS, and he managed stores in East Kilbride, Crawley and Brighton before making his first foray into shopping centre management in 1997 at Edinburgh’s Cameron Toll. In 2000, he was offered the top job at Sunderland’s Bridges Centre.

Now Capital Shopping Centres has recruited him as general manager of the newly extended Eldon Square, one of the largest city-centre shopping destinations in the UK. He replaces Tim Lamb who is moving across the Tyne to CSC's MetroCentre in Gateshead.

Steele said: “This is a hugely exciting time for the centre, which has undergone a £170m redevelopment programme over the last five years, and this major development project has ensured that Eldon Square continues to offer a first class shopping experience.”
