Citygrove gets the green light in Aldershot

Published:  28 May, 2010

Citygrove's £65m WestGate leisure and retail scheme in Aldershot has been given the go-ahead in principle by Rushmoor Borough Council's development control committee.

The committee agreed unanimously that planning permission should be granted for the mixed-use development at the top of the High Street alongside the Princes Hall.

Westgate will include a seven-screen cinema, a 91-bed hotel and a range of family restaurants with outdoor seating around a landscaped piazza. In addition, a Morrisons foodstore will be linked to a new car park by a travelator and lift system .

The planning application now has to be referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government who has 21 days to decide if the Council can go ahead and issue planning consent. Final permission will also be subject to a legal agreement between Hampshire County Council and Citygrove for highways improvements.

It is hoped that work will start on site in October this year, with completion in early 2012.
