Land Securities appoints retail analyst

Published:  12 May, 2010

Land Securities has appointed a new retail performance analyst as part of its commitment to understand changing trends in retail. Rosalind David, ex-head of retail research at DTZ, has been appointed to the position.

The collection of sales data by landlords is a concept with which UK retailers have historically struggled, despite being common practice in the United States and across Europe. However, Land Securities increasingly believes understanding turnover sales is crucial to aligning landlords with retailers in terms of centre improvements, marketing and tenant mix.

Ashley Blake, head of retail portfolio management for Land Securities, said: “Turnover sales information is crucial to better understanding our assets and tenants. It is one of our key routes to improving performance and helping our centres flourish. Traditionally it was seen as a way for landlords to push for higher rent at review but as reviews are comparable evidence based, this thinking is outdated. We use our performance data for the benefit of both landlord and tenant.

Rosalind David said: “I am excited to be joining Land Securities as it begins to develop a more structured approach to the use of quantitative data. Working together with our retailers I am confident that we will be able to demonstrate the benefits this information can bring to both businesses.”
