Highcross bursary supports 29 worthy causes

Highcross Leicester has recently donated £60,000 to charities across the East Midlands after raising money from the VAT reduction last year.

The centre launched its Community Bursary to help worthy causes across the region, passing the 2.5 per cent VAT reduction into a community fund – calculated at less than 5p for every two hours of car parking.

The money was donated to 29 worthy causes stretching from Leicester to Chesterfield. These included nominated charities Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough and Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire, which received £35,000 between them.

Michael Holland, brand experience manager at Highcross, said: “We judged each entry against strict criteria, including their other funding streams available and the benefit to the community, and we have essentially chosen the organisations where we believe most impact could be made.”
