British Land has been named ‘Landlord Of The Year’ and ‘Service Charge Provider Of The Year’ at the 2009 Property Managers Association (PMA) Retail Awards. British Land’s success is unique as it is the first time that a landlord has won the two key awards, which are voted for by retailers.
British Land retained the Service Charge trophy that it won in the 2008 awards, and reclaims the Landlord trophy, which it won the year previously. The Landlord of the Year Award is nominated by the 400 PMA members and includes around 110 of the country's leading retailers. The Service Charge Award is given to the best Service Charge Provider as nominated by the PMA Committee.
Ben Grose, Head of Retail Asset Management at British Land, commented: “This is a fantastic result for the British Land Retail team and recognises the hard work undertaken to ensure that we continue to meet retailers’ needs.
“The PMA is a highly respected organisation and the awards have great credibility with retailers. Our double success sends a clear message that the interests of retailers are central to our business.”
John Gray, Chair of the PMA committee judging the awards, added: “British Land won for the second year running due to maintaining the level of excellence set the year before in the level and standard of communications and transparency around service charges, and the continued pressure exerted by them and their agents in driving down occupational costs for the retailers.”
