Simons Developments has been chosen to redevelop Hitchin's Churchgate shopping centre.
After a six-year search for a development partner, North Herts District Council has awarded the contract for the town centre regeneration scheme to the Lincoln-based developer.
The scheme will encompass a 7.5-acre town centre site including the existing Churchgate shopping centre, the market, three town centre car parks surrounding St Mary’s Church.
A year-long consultation process will now begin before firm proposals for the site are put forward next year.
