Ex-British Land trio measure up Metric float
Published:  08 March, 2010

Metric Property Investments, a specialist retail property investor formed by three ex-British Land directors, is to raise £150m by floating on the London Stock Exchange.

Metric is led by Andrew Jones, previously head of retail at British Land, Valentine Beresford, previously European director at BL and Mark Stirling, previously BL's asset management director.

The trio have worked together for 15 years, first at Pillar Property where they ran the Hercules Property Unit Trust and then at BL. They say their strategy is "to seize the significant opportunities for value creation resulting from re-pricing and refinancing pressures in the retail property market to create a portfolio of retail assets located across the UK." And they say a number of acquisitions are already in the pipeline.

Metric’s Board includes a highly qualified independent team of non-executive directors chaired by Andrew Huntley, a non-executive director of Liberty International, and also comprises Alec Pelmore, a top-rated property analyst and member of the supervisory board of Unibail-Rodamco; Next property director Andrew Varley and Philip Watson, chief investment officer of Mirabaud Investment Management.

Andrew Jones commented: “We are excited to bring our investment proposition to the public markets at a time when we believe the property market offers significant opportunities for Metric. We believe that the extensive re-pricing of the real estate market and the adoption of our occupier-led approach will present a significant opportunity for Metric to create value for shareholders through our active approach to asset management and through the leveraging of our strong retailer, property investor and banking relationships.”
