Victoria Square leads Belfast sales boost
Published:  18 February, 2010

Cross-border shoppers and a string of new lettings boosted Christmas trade at Multi Development and CRI's Victoria Square in Belfast.

Managing agent Savills has revealed that as many as 15 per cent of shoppers visiting Victoria Square in the run-up to Christmas had crossed the border from the Republic drawn by the weakness of Sterling against the Euro and the lower VAT rate in the North.

At the same time new lettings are adding to the attractiveness of Victoria Square, which will mark its second anniversary in March 2010. Recent arrivals include Abercrombie & Fitch's diffusion brand, Hollister, alongside Exhibit, Timberland and New York City Nails.

Centre manager Hugh Black said: “In some cases our retailers reported increases
of more than thirty per cent up on last year.”

And Savills director Anne-Marie Lonergan, added: “Victoria Square has become a favoured destination for not only the immediate catchment, but for the wider island of Ireland. With some great trading results, strong critical mass and an extremely pleasant and safe environment, the interest in the remaining units is encouraging, and we should be in a position to deliver some very attractive brands to add to the high quality mix of tenants.”
