Crown Estate to develop new Regent Street retail

Published:  18 February, 2010

The Crown Estate continues to upgrade its Regent Street estate in London with plans for two new retail-led developments.

The Crown Estate has submitted planning applications to Westminster City Council for two retail and office developments on the west side of Regent Street, half way between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus. The blocks sit either side of New Burlington Street and are known as projects W4 and W5 (south). The plans are part of a rolling redevelopment of the street's older buildings, which has already seen over fifty new retailers open since 2002.

This £200m investment will deliver two new buildings each offering more than 150,000 sq ft of retail and office accommodation. It will improve the public realm in surrounding streets and preserve Regent Street’s listed facades and heritage, together with many other significant historic features.

Alastair Smart, head of development at The Crown Estate said: “ Our schemes continue to deliver modern office and retail space for 21st century occupiers and at the same time protect Regent Street’s historic architecture for generations to come.”

CBRE Planning advised The Crown Estate.
