Liberty International, parent company of Capital Shopping Centres and Capital & Counties, has confirmed that it is considering floating the two as separate businesses.
In a Stock Exchange announcement Liberty said: “The Board confirms that it is actively considering a reorganisation of the group by way of a demerger of a London focused entity from its shopping centre business, Capital Shopping Centres.
“Such a transaction requires a number of third party approvals which have been requested and some of which are currently outstanding. The Board will only be in a position to decide whether to proceed or not once it has progressed these matters further. “
Capital Shopping Centres operates a nationwide portfolio of regional shopping malls including the MetroCentre in Gateshead and Lakeside in Thurrock. Capital & Counties' London portfolio includes the Covent Garden shopping centre and the Earls Court and Olympia exhibition venues.
