Published:  03 February, 2010

Gleniffer Estates has won planning permission for a new phase of its £30m Greenlaw Village neighbourhood centre in the Glasgow suburb of Newton Mearns.

East Renfrewshire Council has given approval for a drive through restaurant and take away, petrol filling station and fitness/leisure facility, which will be at the heart of the Greenlaw Village development. The news comes as building work on the first phase of the development comes to a completion with the first tenant, Tesco Express, due to start fitting out its 4,000-sq ft unit in March 2010.

Other tenants confirmed for the retail parade include BetFred, Newsbox and Greenlaw Dry Cleaners. Retail and restaurant units are still available for lease and range in size from 1,000 to 7,000 sq ft.

Bryan Wilson, managing director of Glasgow-based Gleniffer Estates said: “We announced the acquisition of the Greenlaw site in June and we are delighted that in just seven months the first phase of the centre is ready for tenant fit out. It is also fantastic news that we have received planning permission from East Renfrewshire Council who have been very supportive of our plans from day one.”

Greenlaw Village, which will be developed in a number of phases and will feature the retail parade, new restaurants and a new medical facility comprising GP and dental practices, all prominently located immediately to the east of junction 4 on the M77.

Gleniffer Estates is currently waiting to hear whether planning permission will be granted for the next phase of the development which will be Scotland’s first purpose built Waitrose Store. The proposed store, which would also be Waitrose’s largest store in Scotland, would span 36,000 sq ft and incorporate a 25,000 sq ft sales area plus 182 car parking spaces.

The development is prominently located immediately to the east of Junction 4 of the M77 which serves Newton Mearns and is part of a 120 acre greenfield redevelopment which will provide 480 new houses, a 400,000 sq ft business park, hotel, an upgraded park and ride at Patterton Station and Gleniffer’s mixed use development.
