Liverpool City Council's Executive Board is meeting on Friday, January 15 to discuss a proposed 600,000-sq ft shopping centre, part of a development framework for the city's Edge Lane Central area.
Landowner Derwent Holdings , Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Vision have drawn up a development framework for the comprehensive redevelopment of the 28-ha site to create a new gateway into the city centre. The existing Edge Lane Retail Park is to be developed into a modern shopping centre with 600,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, costing around £200m.
Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "Edge Lane is a vital part of the city. Not only is it a major residential and employment area, it is many visitors' first sight of Liverpool when they leave the M62. In recent years the image presented has not been a good one to say the least.
"Now we can embark on a new future - and not just for people passing through the area. We will have a much improved retail offer which will act as a catalyst for regeneration in this area, and there will be much improved leisure facilities and green spaces for the benefit of the local community.
"These are really exciting proposals which will herald a brighter future for this area, which has been blighted for too long, and for the city in general."
