Liverpool ONE wins Supreme Award |
Following a triumphant first year, BCSC awarded both Liverpool ONE and Westfield London with the Supreme Gold Award at Tuesday’s ceremony. This is the first time two in-town schemes have been joint-winners of the top honour.
High-street store Primark was names Retailer of the Year for the second year running at the event, hosted by broadcaster Andrew Marr at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Liverpool ONE – Grosvenor’s new shopping centre in the heart of Liverpool – and Westfield London also claimed Gold in the In-Town Retail Scheme over 300,000 sq ft category.
In addition, Terminal 1, Retail and Security Redevelopment at Manchester Airport took home the Gold Award for Out-of-Town Retail Scheme, while Grosvenor picked up another Gold when Festival Place won in the Established Centre category. The Gold for Income Generation Project of the Year went to the commercialisation team at the Bullring for the Red Bull X-Fighters Tour. Next in Bon Accord, Aberdeen and Timberland, Westfield London were both given a Gold Award for Shop Fit/Design of the Year.
And a Local Authority Partnership of the Year award – presented for the first time in three years – was won by The Atrium in Camberley and Surrey Heath Borough Council.
BCSC chief executive, Michael Green said: “Our 2009 winners are an exceptional example of the innovative design and quality needed to deliver exciting, inspirational developments. As we move forward into 2010, it is vital that our towns and cities continue to benefit from retail-led regeneration. Our Local Authority Partnership award highlights the importance of collaborative work between the public and private sectors to deliver such successful developments.”
