Hamleys opening at St Enoch

First phase of St Enoch extension opens its doors

Published:  26 November, 2009

The first wave of retailers opened today at Glasgow’s St Enoch centre, with several brands making their debut in the city. The much-anticipated opening of Hamleys toy store kicked off proceedings, with a 30,000-sq ft unit marking the brand’s first standalone store outside of London.

In addition, retailers including Pulp, Henleys and international fashion brand H&M opened their doors as part of the first phase of a £100m extension by owners Ivanhoe Cambridge. Swatch, Folli Follie and Lambretta have also recently signed up for space, with the remaining units being marketed by retail agents Cushman & Wakefield.

St Enoch’s extension gives the new scheme more than 765,000 sq ft of prime shopping space, with funds also invested in refurbishing the existing centre.

Ivanhoe Cambridge vice president of leading for Europe, Richard Kingston, said: “In hard times such as these, leasing new space is always a challenge but the strength of St Enoch and Glasgow has shone through – a fact that has been reinforced by Hamleys’ decision to open its second UK store in the scheme.”
