Global real estate investment manager PRUPIM has appointed MALCOLM SMITH as chief operating officer. He is a former managing director and chief operating officer for Barclays Global Investors in Europe, and prior to this he was head of investment management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and was previously a consultant at Mercer Human Resources. Smith will join the board of PRUPIM and will be based at the company’s headquarters in London.

The SECURITY INDUSTRY AUTHORITY has appointed BILL BUTLER as its new chief executive. He is currently director of corporate services at the Gambling Commission and was previously finance director at the Healthcare Commission and held a number of senior roles at the Audit Commission.

AREA PROPERTY PARTNERS, the global real estate investment group, has appointed JON ZEHNER, as a senior director at its European headquarters in London. He joins AREA from JP Morgan Chase & Co, working most recently as managing director and head of sub-Saharan Africa and prior to that, seven years as global head of real estate investment banking.

Birmingham-based retail property developer REALIS ESTATES has appointed former Hammerson UK managing director JOHN BYWATER as a non-executive director. He will provide strategic advice across Realis’ portfolio of retail assets, including The Rushes Shopping Centre in Loughborough and the proposed £250m regeneration of the East West Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
