Food Feedback: St Pancras Grand at St Pancras International

Published:  26 June, 2009

This month, Coverpoint's Jonathan Doughty visits the new St Pancras Grand brasserie at London’s St Pancras International station.

On my second visit to St Pancras International, I went to see a new operator that represents the evolution of food service in this iconic building.

We visited the St Pancras Grand, having already enjoyed the Champagne Bars at the Station and Westfield London on separate occasions. The operator, Searcy 1847, has branched out from its traditional management contracts at locations such as the Royal Opera House, to leasing space.

Apart from the slightly confusing front doors, The St Pancras Grand is a stunning modern take on a traditional brasserie. No expense seems to have been spared on the fit out, and the branding and delivery really are first class.

We enjoyed a cream of pumpkin soup, a duck and chicken liver terrine, traditional fish & chips and a delightful corn fed chicken. As it was my other half’s birthday, we washed it down with a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Rosé Champagne. The food totalled £25 per head, plus service charge, giving a total bill for food of £60. Given the quality of the service and the quality of the food this was extremely reasonable.

As we see more mixed use developments coming on stream, we will no doubt see more of this quality of operation, not just in railway stations and at Westfield London, but also around the country. I’ll drink to that!
