Capital Shopping Centres and Land Securities have unveiled a further tranche of retailers who will be taking space at Cardiff’s St David’s 2. The new city centre retail destination is on target for opening in Autumn 2009.

Fashion stores New Look and Slater swill be joining the likes of Hugo Boss, Kurt Geiger, All Saints and H&M; jewellers Beaverbrooks, Fraser Hart, Goldsmiths and Parkhouse the Jeweller, will line up with Links of London and
accessories stores Claire’s and Essential will open along with Crabtree & Evelyn and Radley.

Other new names opening at St David’s 2 include mobile telecoms providers Carphone Warehouse, O2 and Vodafone; footwear retailer Clarks; gift retailer Clinton Cards and coffee shop Starbucks.

The 967,500-sq ft shopping centre will be anchored by John Lewis in a 260,000-sq ft store, the retailer’s largest shop outside of London and its first in the principality.

Following these latest lettings, 55 per cent of the total floorspace has been let or is in solicitor’s hands.

Caroline Kirby, of the St David’s Partnership, said: “St David’s 2 will open this autumn with an exciting, robust and diverse retail mix. We have worked with individual retailers on a bespoke basis to ensure that, despite current market conditions, they can open a shop within what will become one of Europe’s premier retail destinations.”

Letting agents for St David’s 2 are Cardiff-based E J Hales and Lunson Mitchenall and Cushman & Wakefield in London.

At the same time the £6.5m refurbishment of Cardiff’s Queens Arcade shopping centre, designed by Holder Mathias Architects, has been completed.

The second-phase refurbishment by the Sapphire Retail Fund saw the 1990’s shopping centre completely redecorated, new floor and ceiling tiles installed and the removal of brass fittings, neon strip lights, plastic planting and mirrors. These have been replaced with a new stainless system, an LED advertising screen, colour changing wall washing LED lights and more contemporary furniture.
