Superquinn has taken drastic economy measures in the face of intense competition, including from the surge in consumer spending by shoppers going North across the border.
The company has been owned by a group of local investors since 2005. They own it through Select Retail Holdings. The chain is slashing its 3,300 workforce by 12 per cent, with staff cuts being made in every store. In addition,it is closing its Dundalk store, where the Superquinn chain was started by Feargal Quinn in 1960.
