Clas Ohlson doubles up
Published:  07 February, 2009

Swedish hardware chain Clas Ohlson, has acquired its second UK site, taking a 25,000-sq ft unit at Manchester Arndale. Last Autumn it arrived in the UK with a store in Croydon’s Whitgift centre and it is on the look-out for more UK locations.

The new Manchester store will operate over three floors with an entrance on Market Street, one of the busiest shopping streets in the UK.

Clas Ohlson managing director Mark Gregory said: “Manchester Arndale is one of the top five shopping centres in the UK and with an excellent customer base and a catchment area of about 2.4m inhabitants. We have been preparing to enter the UK for some time as we believe there is a gap in the market for a modern hardware brand and particularly in city centres such as Manchester.”

The joint agents for Manchester Arndale are Tushingham Moore, CBRE and Lunson Mitchenall. Jones Lang LaSalle is advisor to Clas Ohlson.
