McArthurGlen Group has stepped up its European expansion with the opening of its fourth Italian scheme and the launch of a new project in Berlin. In a recession-busting move the company plans to add a further 300,000 sq m of GLA to its European portfolio, which currently stands at 400,000 sq m, by the end of 2012.

The opening of Veneto Designer Outlet near Venice brings the total number of McArthurGlen's designer outlet villages in Europe to 17 in eight countries. The first phase of the new development offers 11,000 sq m and the 10,000 sq m Phase 2 is scheduled to open in 2009.

Key brands to open in the centre this autumn include Aspesi, Baldinini, Burberry, Costume National, Fratelli Rossetti, Les Copains, Pal Zileri, Brooksfield, Calvin Klein Underwear, Nike Factory Store, Calvin Klein Jeans, Elena Mirò, Frette, Guess, Il Gufo, Massimo Rebecchi, Miss Sixty, Pinko and Piquadro, among others.

At the same time McArthurGlen and Henderson Global Investors' European Outlet Mall Fund have unveiled plans for the E80m redevelopment of the B5 outlet village in Berlin. The two-phase redevelopment will offer a gross lettable area of 19,000 sq m in 120 units.
