Turnstone Estates and RevCap have submitted a detailed planning application to Ipswich Borough Council, for a £50m retail-led scheme on the site of the former Civic Centre in Ipswich.
The scheme will provide approximately 120,000 sq ft of food and non-food retail space and will include restaurants, cafes, one and two-bed flats, and 500 parking spaces.
An existing under-used public open space will be come an amphitheatre to host outdoor events.
Turnstone director Nick Scott said the scheme formed a natural extension to the existing retail pitch. "This retail-led development responds to the pent-up demand we know exists in the area especially with the lack of town centre provision," he said.
Subject to planning approval, construction of the scheme will begin in summer 2009 with completion scheduled for spring 2011.
