Food feedback

Published:  30 September, 2008

As ever we aim to bring you up to the minute news, and this month Food Feedback comes from Leicester. On 4 September 2008, Highcross opened and the Showcase Cinema De Lux also previewed its new offer to the city.

Having been involved with both the development of the food offer at Highcross and Showcase I was excited to arrive in the city to see tens of thousands of people moving around the development.

New operators to Highcross include the Handmade Burger Company, Yo! Sushi, Canas y Tapas and Wagamama, all of which were trading incredibly well on the first day.

I chose to eat in Studio One, the foodservice offer in Showcase comprising a stylish bar and restaurant. Trying hard to divorce myself from the knowledge I have of the offer, three of us sat down to eat and enjoyed an excellent meal.

One colleague 'built' his own burger, I enjoyed the Far East platter and my other colleague settled for a grilled tuna steak salad. Given the restaurant was not supposed to be trading, the service was excellent and the food quality well above the high benchmark set.

The overall bill, with all our drinks, came to £32, which is extraordinary value given the environment, service and product.

As a footnote, on that first afternoon and evening, over 300 people chose to eat at Studio One. Almost all left delighted and I would suggest that Showcase now has a foodservice proposition to match its concessions offer.

Enjoy!
