SCEPTRE winners unveiled

At the glittering SCEPTRE Awards dinner at London’s Dorchester hotel last night 15 of the industry’s brightest and best were rewarded for their contribution to shopping centres across the UK and Ireland.

The Lifetime Achievement Award (sponsored by Capital Shopping Centres) was given to architect Nigel Woolner of Chapman Taylor, reflecting his three decades of dedication to pushing forward standards in shopping centre design, with projects ranging from Eldon Square in Newcastle to Grand Arcade in Cambridge. The Young Achiever award went to Annarose Hearsum, tenant relations executive at Land Securities’ Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.

The John Lewis Partnership was Retailer of the Year while Best Short-Term Merchant (sponsored by Retail Profile Europe) was Hair Extensions by Extras.

Security Team of the Year was the Europa team at the MetroCentre, Gateshead, while Westfield snapped up the Customer Relations Team of the Year for Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells. Savills was voted Managing Agent of the Year by Shopping Centre’s readers, who also chose Westfield as their Developer of the Year (sponsored by Europa).

The Environmental Initiative of the Year award (sponsored by Futur) went to Lend Lease’s Meadows centre in Chelmsford, which is approaching 100 per cent recycling, while Kirklees Council won the Town Centre Regeneration Award (sponsored by Retail Fusion) for its work in Huddersfield.

Jude Leitch, marketing manager at The Gate in Newcastle was Marketing Manager of the Year (sponsored by LDJ Design & Display) and Castle Court in Belfast won the Brand Promotion of the Year award for its Orange County Chopper Road Show, completing a hat-trick of awards for its owner, Westfield.

In the Centre Manager of the Year categories, Paul Haynes won the best manager of a small centre award (sponsored by Alpine Selection)for his work at Regent Place in Leamington Spa; Louise Evans of Clarks Village in Street, Somerset, won best manager of a medium-sized centre (sponsored by Photo-Me) and Don Nugent of Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin won the best manager of a large centre award (sponsored by the event’s principal sponsor, Promotion Space.)
