With the last crane finally removed from site at The Atrium in Camberley, Surrey last month, local dignitaries from across the region gathered at the scheme on April 30 to perform the official 'topping out' ceremony.
Key stakeholders including developer Crest Nicholson Regeneration, building contractor Laing O'Rourke and investors Standard Life attended the event, which traditionally brings luck to a new building.
The scheme, located in the centre of Camberley, includes 132,000 sq ft of retail space targeted at fashion, music, sports and lifestyle. Next, Sports World and Zavvi have already opened for trading in their external units on the new pedestrianised Park Street.
In addition, the centre provides 128,500 sq ft of leisure and restaurant use, including a 32,000- sq ft Bowlplex and multi-screen Vue cinema. Nandos, Wagamama, Prezzo and Frankie & Bennies are among the eateries that have taken space at the scheme, which also features a new 683-space multi-storey car park and 217 apartments.
The scheme is due to open in November 2008.
