Manager of the month

Arnold Wilcox-Wood, one of the most experienced and respected businessmen in the retail world, is to take up the post of general manager at the Merseyway shopping centre in Stockport.

Arnold is a former winner of the SCEPTRE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. His career to date has taken him from manager with Arndale shopping centres, Manchester, working for P&O Properties, through to managing numerous shopping centres throughout the UK and, most recently, working as consultant to Solomon shopping centres in St Petersburg, Russia. He also managed to fit in a spell working in the shopping centre industry in Turkey and in Prague.

The Mancunian is absolutely delighted to be back in the north-west of England, where he began his career, and is looking forward to taking Merseyway, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2005, to even greater heights.

He says: "It's true I've worked in many different places both here and abroad, but I'm really excited about working in Stockport. I believe that Stockport and Merseyway can do great things together, and by working in partnership we can really raise the town's profile and ensure it's a great place to shop, work and have a great time."

In addition to his new role as general manager, Arnold acts as a justice of the peace and even finds time to chair the British Council of Shopping Centre's Association of Shopping Centre Managers.

Like Arnold, Merseyway itself has a strong pedegree, being one of the first shopping centres to be built in the UK.
