The Irish Midlands' biggest-ever retail scheme wins consent

Planning permission has been granted for the Irish Midlands' biggest-ever retail scheme in Mullingar.
Bennett Developments' €200m Central Mullingar development will total 36,000 sq m including 22,000 sq m of retail, 84 residential units, 645 sq m of offices, a cultural building, cinema, over 1,400 car spaces, a medical centre, crèche, restaurants and cafes.
Mullingar based Bennett was chosen by Westmeath County Council following a design competition to rejuvenate the Blackhall area in the centre of the town. The BDP-designed open-air scheme will be an organic continuation of the existing town centre.
The developer calculates the scheme will have a catchment of 344,000 people within a 40 minute drive. Work on Central Mullingar will commence immediately with completion planned for Spring 2011.
