Three major international brands have shrugged off doubts about the UK economy and decided to enter the market for the first time. The moves will be good news for developers looking to lease new malls.
Spanish giant Inditex is to bring its young fashion brand Pull & Bear to the UK for the first time with a flagship store at Grosvenor's Liverpool One. This is the fifth Inditex brand to enter the UK, joining Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti and Bershka. But the company has three more brands -- Stradivarious, Oysho and Kiddy's Class that are not yet represented.
At Liverpool One Pull & Bear will occupy a 6,824-sq ft unit on the upper level of South John Street, trading alongside Zara and Zara Home.
And following the arrival of Ikea and Ilva, a third Scandinavian retailer is to take on the UK home furnishing market. The Danish chain Jysk has secured its first two sites in Lincoln and Mansfield and plans to open them in spring 2008.
Jysk is one of the world's biggest retail furniture groups, with 1,350 stores generating group turnover of €1.9bn pa. It currently operates in 29 countries with plans to expand into Italy, Slovenia and Russia as well as the UK.
The company has taken two stores of about 10,750 sq ft each, and has set up its UK headquarters in Manchester. It plans a significant roll-out across the country over the next two years.
And the French retailer Myatt International has taken its first space in the UK at the new Westfield London scheme in White City, west London. It will trade its high end ladies fashion brand, Etincelle from 1,186 sq ft as part of Westfield London's aspirational tenant mix.
Savills advised the tenant and director Rob Hargreaves said: "This acquisition marks the start of Etincelle's strategy moving forward to expand into other locations within the UK retail market."
