As the spring shopping centre opening season draws nearer, significant letting landmarks have been achieved on at least two of the new crop of malls. This spring will see major openings in Belfast, High Wycombe, Cambridge and Liverpool.
Eden, Multiplex and Aldersgate Investments' 850,000-sq ft retail and leisure development in High Wycombe, has seen a late flurry of lettings taking it past the 95-per cent let mark with less than a month until opening day.
Latest signings include LK Bennett, which has agreed terms on a two-level 4,254-sq ft store and Joy, in a 2,656-sq ft unit. Sportswear and casual clothing specialist, Billabong, completes the latest lettings with a 4,127-sq ft two-level store.
And Multi Development and CGI's £400m Victoria Square development in Belfast city centre has broken through the 90 per cent let barrier following a late flurry of deals. Irish hairdresser Free Spirit will operate from a 1,775-sq ft unit; The Pier from 6,242-sq ft; Pepe Jeans from 2,238 sq ft and New Zealand-based childrenswear brand Pumpkin Patch from 3,826 sq ft. At the same time menswear specialist Douglas & Grahame is increasing its representation in Belfast with a 2,110-sq ft unit; Hobbs has taken 3,392 sq ft; O2 1,148 sq ft and Starbucks 1,984 sq ft.
At the same time five new fashion retailers have signed for Grosvenor and USS's Grand Arcade development in Cambridge ahead of the scheme's opening on March 27. LK Bennett is taking 3,600 sq ft; Thomas Sabo 300 sq ft; Swarovski 1,000 sq ft; Fraser Hart 2,200 sq ft; Warehouse 2,200 sq ft and Phase Eight 2,000 sq ft.
Grosvenor director John Irvine said he expected at least 40 of the 52 units in the 450,000-sq ft retail development to be let by opening day.
