Poundland has taken a new 10-year lease at Unit 25, The Gates shopping centre, from ING Property Retail Fund at £77,500 pa. The property provides 3,612 sq ft of ground floor sales and 3,430 sq ft of storage space. Poundland was represented by Jones Retail and ING by Savills.


? Eccles

Subway has taken a new 15-year lease, with five-yearly break options, on the 1,500-sq ft Unit A on the West One retail park. A rent of £30,000 pa has been agreed. BTWShiells represented the landlord, Dominion Corporate Trustees, and Savills represented the tenant.


? Kempson

Betfred has taken the 1,711-sq ft Unit 7 in the Saxon Centre, Bedford Road. A rent of £15,000 pa was agreed. Lambert Smith Hampton was letting agent.


? Glasgow

Fred Perry has taken a 1,465-sq ft unit at Buchanan Galleries on a 10-year lease at £184,600pa. CB Richard Ellis was letting agent.


? Glasgow

Hairdressing and beauty retailer Aveda has taken Unit 7 in the GPO Building, comprising 2,355 sq ft, on a 10-year lease at a stepped rent reaching £52,000 pax in year five. SGM Property Consultants was letting agent on behalf of GPO Estates and Culverwell acted on behalf of Aveda.


? Keighley

Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society has let a 5,434-sq ft unit at the Keighley retail park to Homestyle Group. The bed and furniture retailer has taken the store on a new 10-year lease at an annual rent of £81,500. The landlord was advised by Edgerley Simpson Howe & Partners and Homestyle Group by Stephen Smart & Co.

Rockspring Hanover Trust and Ediston Properties have taken a surrender of Going Places' lease at Unit 1, St Nicholas Arcades. The unit has been split in two with Unit 1a re-let to T-Mobile at £55,000 pa and Unit 1b to Orange at £65,000 pa. Brady and Leslie Furness represented the landlords and Harper Dennis Hobbs and Cushman & Wakefield represented the tenants.


? Leeds

Town Centre Securities has granted a 10-year lease on a 3,725-sq ft unit at 26-28 Woodhouse Lane at the Merrion Centre to Trespass Investments, trading as Nevisport. Trespass has agreed an annual rent of £75,500 to join other retailers, including Sainsburys Local and Costa Coffee, at the 800,000-sq ft mixed-use Merrion Centre, which incorporates retail, office, hotel and leisure accommodation. The landlord was advised by Savills.


? Liverpool

Gamestation has acquired 1,439 sq ft of ground floor sales, with basement storage, at Unit B, Belle Vale shopping centre, by way of a new 10-year lease, with a tenant's break option at year five, at a rent of £37,500 pax. Williams Gunter Hardwick represented Gamestation and the lessor, Frogmore Property Group, was represented by Jones Lang LaSalle.


? MiddlesboroUGH

Card Factory has taken Unit 13 in the Parkway shopping centre, Coulby Newham. The unit provides 1,300 sq ft of sales space and a 15-year lease has been granted at £30,000 pa. BTWShiells advised the landlord, PBN Holdings, and Fawley Watson Booth represented the tenant.


? Newcastle Under Lyme

Co-Op Travel has taken Unit 8 in the Castle Walk shopping centre, providing 828 sq ft at ground floor level with a 546-sq ft first floor on a 10-year lease at £44,500 pa. Legat Owen was letting agent on behalf of Atmore Centres.


? ROCHDALE

Scottish Widows Investment Partnership has let a 10,555-sq ft unit at Kingsway retail park to Dreams on a new 15-year lease at £174,157.50 pa. Other tenants at the scheme include Comet, JJB Sports, Netto and The Range. SWIP was advised by Edgerley Simpson Howe & Partners.


? Runcorn

St Modwen has let 30,000 sq ft at the Bridge retail park to Homebase on a 15-year lease at £240,000 pa. Ramsdens was letting agent.


? Torquay

Poundland has taken a new 10-year lease on Unit 15, Fleet Walk from Pinequote at £135,000 pa. The property provides 4,804 sq ft of ground floor sales and 3,479 sq ft of storage space. Poundland was advised by Jones Retail and Pinequote by Churston Heard.


? Tunbridge Wells

Royal London Asset Management has let the last unit at Tunbridge Wells shopping park on Longfield Road to TK Maxx. The fashion retailer has agreed a 15-year lease on the unit which comprises 10,917 sq ft of retail space and has a full cover mezzanine. The rent is £400,000 pa. Savills was letting agent and TK Maxx was advised by Brasier Harris.



? Birmingham

Joy has acquired a 10-year lease on Unit 7 at the Caxtongate development at £200,000 pa. The unit comprises a ground floor sales area of 2,251 sq ft and a first floor ancillary/office space of 500 sq ft. CBRE and DTZ are joint letting agents on behalf of Cosgrave Property Developments. Pudney Shuttleworth represented Joy Retail.



? Enfield

Creative hair salon Ginger Group has taken a ground floor unit (Unit 5) totalling 981 sq ft at ING Real Estate's Palace Exchange for a term of 15 years at a rent of £62,000 pa. Nash Bond and Chase & Partners are letting agents for Palace Exchange, while Robert Bebington & Co represented Ginger Group.



? Nottingham

Hawkin's Bazaar has acquired 313 Victoria Centre, providing 1,591 sq ft with first floor storage by way of a new 10-year lease. The initial rent is £111,825 pax. Williams Gunter Hardwick represented Hawkin's Bazaar, while the landlord, Capital Shopping Centres, was represented by Lunson Mitchenall.


River Island and New Look expand In Southampton

River Island is to open a 15,000-sq ft store in May 2008 at Hammerson's 800,000-sq ft WestQuay shopping centre. And New Look is to relocate within the centre to the 28,000-sq ft former Waitrose store.

WestQuay's catering and food retail offer has also seen a number of new arrivals, with Hotel Chocolat opening a 1,400-sq ft unit in the scheme's lower atrium level and Julian Graves taking a 1,000-sq ft unit at the Portland Terrace entrance.

Pret a Manger has opened in the former Nike unit fronting the scheme on Above Bar. At 5,000 sq ft, Pret's WestQuay outlet is its largest in the south. And SumoSalad has opened a 700-sq ft unit at WestQuay's three-level food terrace for its second UK outlet.

Sheila King, Hammerson's director of UK retail leasing, said: "The decisions by River Island and New Look to expand their stores by taking new flagship units in WestQuay demonstrates its continued importance as a key location for major retailers, and the region's leading destination for fashion and lifestyle shopping."
