Centre owners like to portray their malls as havens of peace and quiet, but Zurich Assurance's Piazza shopping centre in Huddersfield became the unlikely venue for the first ever UK theatre production of Fight Club.
The sell-out opening night of the Benchmark Productions premiere was shrouded in secrecy; the audience turned up at the Lawrence Batley Theatre expecting to take their seats as normal, but instead they were whisked over the road and into the service basement of the Piazza.
The industrial setting created a dark and foreboding atmosphere that added to the intensity of the production.
Centre manager John Beardall said: "The show received a rapturous ovation and we hope the success of this production will encourage more people to make use of our event facilities."
