Alongside the Conference BCSC will once again host the popular Showcase exhibition. This year's Showcase, which was more than 90 per cent sold out in early October, will host more than 90 retailers, owners, developers, agents, advisers, consultants and other exhibiting groups.
And according to Peter Drummond, conference chair for BCSC 2007 and chief executive of Building Design Partnership, some important changes have been made to make the Showcase work better for both exhibitors and delegates.
"We continue to work to improve the conference and delegates will notice that the 2007 event incorporates an earlier opening for the Showcase, which now starts at 4.30pm on the first day," he says. "The exciting location of NewcastleGateshead - one of the great shopping and entertainment capitals of Europe - promises to be a fantastic backdrop."
Another of the highlights of the annual BCSC Conference and Showcase is the BCSC's Town Centre Environment Awards, which this year will be presented on 7 November.
Inaugurated in 1991, the Town Centre Awards celebrate and reward the best that Britain and Northern Ireland have to offer in terms of planning and investing to maintain the historical, social and economical significance of town and city centres. The awards are open to entries from public bodies who - through local authorities, town centre management initiatives and others - demonstrate the benefits of improved public realm infrastructure. This year saw around 20 towns and cities across the UK submitting projects, and the shortlisted projects include:
? Southwater Village Centre, Horsham ? St Helens Town Centre ? Redruth Town Centre ? Cornmill Gardens, Lewisham ? St George's Square and Bridge Gate, Hebden Bridge ? St George's Square, Luton
The awards are sponsored by Centros Miller and chairman John Laker heads the eight-member jury which includes includes Costa property director Clive Bentley; Andrew Dickens, head of cultural, leisure & commercial services at Wyre Forest District Council; BHS head of property Tony Hatch; Andrew Martin, consultant to the Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund and CBRE Investors; Christopher Robson of Corporate Property Advisors; Strutt & Parker planning partner Brian Raggett; and Andrew Tindsley, director of urbanism & landscape at BDP.
Laker says: "The Awards recognise outstanding work in modern urban renaissance and aim to reward those who actively promote vibrant, competitive locations."
