Camille Waxer, head of retail at Canary Wharf Group, has won the prestigious 2007 Harper's Bazaar & Aquascutum Businesswoman of the Year award. This is the fifth year the awards have taken place and the first time they have been sponsored by British luxury fashion brand Aquascutum.
Harper's Bazaar editor, Lucy Yeomans, commented: "Camille has taken Canary Wharf's retail development from 20 shops with a turnover of £500,000 in 1991, to more than 200 units with a turnover of £242m today. She is a truly inspirational businesswoman and her remarkable results speak for themselves. In addition she has also been responsible for some of the unique elements of Canary Wharf's success, for example, the emergency childcare offering, a school and excellent state-of-the-art medical facilities."
Camille said: "I am truly honoured to be presented with this award. However, any success that I have enjoyed must be shared with the team I work with at Canary Wharf, led by George Lacobescu. As a member of this team I have been privileged to contribute to the creation of a thriving retail and business centre in east London and have enjoyed every minute of it."
Camille received her award at a ceremony held at Somerset House on September 4, alongside other category winners.
