This year Shopping Centre's readers have voted the John Lewis Partnership as their SCEPTRE Retailer of the Year.
With 68,000 partners the John Lewis Partnership is the UK's biggest workers' co-op, owning the John Lewis department stores, the Waitrose food stores and the Greenbee online business. John Lewis currently operates 26 department stores across the UK and is in the middle of a very ambitious expansion phase which will see this number almost double. In November 2007 it will open a new store in Cambridge and then another in Liverpool in 2008. Sites have already been secured for new stores and relocations in Leicester, Cardiff, Portsmouth, Oxford, Stratford, Leeds, Sheffield, Crawley, Preston and at Sprucefield, near Belfast. And there is also potential for another new store in Croydon.
The typical John Lewis store trades from 250,000 sq ft and stocks more than 350,000 separate lines. The aim is to offer customers everything they need: fashions, furnishings and household goods of all kinds at competitive prices with excellent service and free delivery.
