Joint owners of Brent Cross shopping centre, Hammerson and Standard Life Investments, are creating more space at the 860,000-sq ft north London shopping destination to accommodate retailer expansions.
A new 10,000-sq ft rooftop extension is being created to provide a larger store for Arcadia. When completed at the end of this year, Arcadia will occupy a total of 23,000 sq ft, doubling their existing space.
The new Arcadia flagship store, which will house the retailer's Top Shop and Top Man brands, will open in spring 2008. River Island is also expanding its presence at Brent Cross moving to a new flagship store.
The former Evans store will also be reconfigured to provide a larger store for Carphone Warehouse and premises for Brent Cross newcomer, Lacoste. Carphone Warehouse will occupy 2,195 sq ft, while Lacoste will open in a 1,500 sq ft unit in autumn 2007. The 1,100 sq ft unit currently occupied by Carphone Warehouse will be made available for new fashion retailers.
Sheila King, Hammerson's director of UK Retail Leasing, said: "We are continually looking for ways in which we can meet retailer demand for representation at Brent Cross, and creating additional space above Arcadia's existing store enabled us to satisfy this requirement. "These latest expansions demonstrate the continued strength of Brent Cross as a major trading location for leading retailers, and we will be carrying out further modifications to existing store units to allow for the introduction of new fashion brands to the centre."
Ed Jenkins, shopping centres fund manager at Standard Life Investments, added: "Shoppers expect to find flagship stores at a retail destination like Brent Cross and that is exactly what we are delivering." Joint letting agents for Brent Cross shopping centre are Lunson Mitchenall and Cushman Wakefield.
