Plans for the development of a former police station in west Belfast has been met with opposition from local residents.
The Department of Social Development announced the appointment of the Carvill Group as the preferred developer for the Andersonstown police barracks, which closed in January 2005.
The company wants to build a six storey block to include about 30 flats, several shops and an extensive 4,500-sq ft area for community use at a nominal rent, but residents living near the demolished security base have formed a campaign group to stop the development of the site.
The Stop the Sell-Off Campaign are outraged at the proposed plans for the site and their petition already includes over 1,000 signatures.
