Following its recent ICSC award for European Shopping Centre of the Year 2007, it was time to visit Dundrum Town Centre to have a look for ourselves. As Ireland's largest centre at 80,000sq m, the foodservice facilities are numerous and varied, with 26 units, in addition to a 600-seat, cook-to-order food court, feeding both shoppers and leisure visitors alike.
Mall foodservice is dispersed throughout the centre, offering 'punctuation points' for hungry shoppers, while fast food and casual dining offers are clustered around the landscaped waterside, supporting the multiplex. Eddie Rockets, TGI Fridays and Bennigans provide the family focus, with the expanding Café Mao chain and intimate Italian Bistro L'Officina Dunne & Crescenzi providing the premium casual dining. A great mix of offers.
We chose breakfast at the Espresso Bar at Harvey Nichols, the first 'Nics' in Ireland. And what a great start to the day! Two creamy cappuccinos at £3.50 each, followed by eggs benedict at £8.50, combined perfect poached eggs with parma ham, rocket and lemon mayonnaise atop an English muffin. The light, modern and airy interior of the unit, glazed on all sides, provided the ideal opportunity for the 'see and be seen' diners. Perfect for the designer-led Fashion District in which the unit is located.
Dundrum Town Centre has certainly raised the bar for both foodservice and retailing in Ireland, as 30 million visitors in the last two years can testify.
