The BPA has launched the Institute of Parking Professionals (IPP), an independent body representing individuals engaged in the UK parking industry and traffic management sectors.
The institute, which was introduced at Parkex in April, will provide a platform for members to exchange views and aims to benefit the public by helping raise standards across the industry. IPP plans to act as the voice for the individual professional; facilitate, develop and promote best practice in parking and related topics; encourage and facilitate education and training and career development; support and encourage all members to become involved in debate and research; and raise standards in the industry.
Chief executive of the BPA Keith Banbury said: "The launch of the IPP is a fantastic milestone, not just for us but for the industry. As the parking sector develops, there are many knowledgeable professionals and consultants working within the industry who may not work for parking companies. The IPP aims to harness this talent and support these individuals, providing a natural forum for those who are keen to develop further."
Professor John Raine of Birmingham University added: "I really believe that quality and professionalism is what this industry needs to demonstrate.
"Professionalism means two things: retaining an up-to-date knowledge of what's going on and an acute understanding of the technical nature of what this industry is about. But daily, it's about understanding, responding to, and listening to the public and clients. It's about being expert and responsive."
