It's good to see the land of the free living up to its name. One exhibitor at ICSC found that its valuable model had been damaged in transit and needed urgent repairs before going on display.
The modelmaker from Nottingham was told to jump on the first available flight to Las Vegas to carry out the repairs, but as he got down to work he was tapped on the shoulder by a burly local stand builder who told him only members of the appropriate unions are allowed to carry out manual labour at the Las Vegas Convention Center. So he had to watch in trepidation while a member of the local Teamsters branch wielded the glue and balsa wood.
