The existing store on Liverpool's prime Church Street is to be more than doubled in size to become a 65,000-sq ft three-level 'mega store'. It will be situated at one of the main entrances to Liverpool One, on the corner of Church Street and Peter's Lane, which leads into the new scheme.

To facilitate the letting Grosvenor paid around £40m for the final part of its Liverpool One site assembly. The 66,056-sq ft, six-storey building at 22/36 Church Street was acquired from LaSalle Investment Management. Tushingham Moore advised Grosvenor.

Neil Barber, head of retail leasing at Grosvenor, said: "Topshop and Topman are two of the most powerful brands on the UK high street. Liverpool One's catchment residents are big buyers of fashion, spending more per head than their counterparts in Manchester, and we're confident the new Topshop/Topman store will be a great success."

The deal follows the handover of the 240,000-sq ft John Lewis department store for fit-out. Grosvenor is also on target to hand over the 185,000-sq ft Debenhams store in May.

l Grosvenor has acquired a key part of its Town Centre North site in Crawley following a deal to buy the strategically located Woolworths store in Queens Square. The deal is the first in a number the developer hopes to make in the town centre and it has been in talks with a number of landowners and occupiers in an effort to agree terms without resorting to a CPO. If planning permission is granted Grosvenor hopes to start work on site in the autumn of 2010 and complete Town Centre North, which will be anchored by a 225,000 sq ft John Lewis department store, in autumn 2013.
