Dublin-based women's fashion chain Sasha is closing five outlets due to soaring rents and much stronger retail competition.

It has sold the leasehold on Henry Street for more than e750,000 and is selling four more at St Stephen's Green, Liffey Valley, Blanchardstown, Dublin, and Mahon Point, Co Cork.

Sasha plans to replace these units in less expensive locations and is already reported to be signing up for the Jervis Centre.

The e200,000 rent on Henry Street was expected to increase to e500,000. Two years ago, a group of Irish retailers, including Sasha, started a campaign against big increases in rent.
