The stunning architecture of the Victoria Quarter in Leeds acts as the backdrop to this month's featured operator. Anthony's Patisserie is the latest addition to the growing portfolio of local operator Anthony Flinn. Best known for his award-winning restaurant offer in nearby Bull Lane, the patisserie sees a first foray for the operator into a retail environment. Anthony's Patisserie, surrounded by boutique retailers and the Quarter's anchor, Harvey Nichols, provides an upmarket daytime offer for the discerning shopper.

My colleague and I kicked back into the well-padded seats in anticipation of a much required breakfast after a long journey. The efficient staff gave a knowledgeable description of the menu items and, after a short wait, we were presented with a Brie filled croissant with ham hock (£5.50 and delicious), banana and maple syrup pancakes (£4.50 and a matter of quality over quantity) and two perfectly assembled cappuccinos (£2.25 each). The total bill for breakfast was £14.50 - relatively expensive, but value in terms of the quality of ingredients, service and environment, the cornerstones of a successful foodservice operation.

It would have been easy to sit back and watch the well-heeled shoppers go by in this 'see and be seen' location and wait for the lunch menu to appear, but work was pressing. There is a growing trend for landlords to incorporate quality local operators in unique and interesting settings in retail environments and Anthony's Patisserie certainly ticks all these boxes.
