Grosvenor will this month reach a major landmark in its massive Liverpool One project with the handover of the two anchor department stores - John Lewis is taking possession of its 240,000-sq ft store at the eastern side of the 42-acre site, while Debenhams will begin internal works on its 185,000 sq ft department store at the western end of the scheme.
According to Grosvenor's leasing manager Neil Barber, the rest of the 1.4 million sq ft of retail space is now leasing well with retailers from a wide range of sectors slotting into the six distinct districts, each with a different character, offer and design, built around the existing streets of Liverpool. On completion Liverpool One will have 160 units in over 30 individually designed buildings, a 14-screen cinema and 230,000 sq ft of restaurants and bars.
Construction of Liverpool One is on target to be delivered during 2008, the year in which Liverpool is European Capital of Culture.
