Kilcock, Co Kildare, could experience substantial retail-led regeneration if plans by two rival developers come to fruition.
McGarrell Reilly Contractors and the Sammon Group have proposals for the 1.5-ha Kellys Bakery site that include a 6,057-sq m anchor store, 26 other retail units and 155 apartments.
The other proposal has come from Zed Candy, which proposes to build an anchor retail store, 22 retail units, a food court, 186 apartments and parking for 700 cars on the 2.2-ha site of the former Leaf chewing gum factory. While the centre of Kilcock has plenty of vacant sites and badly maintained commercial buildings, new development could give it a whole new lease of life.
