Gap is to open its first Irish factory outlet store at The Outlet at Bridgewater Park in Banbridge, Northern Ireland. The US fashion brand will be the centre's fourth anchor tenant alongside Marks & Spencer, Nike and Armani stockist the Designer Studio. Gap will be positioned in 9,348 sq ft at the west entrance of the scheme.
The £70m development, which comprises 80 retail units arranged in a curved design stretching one third of a mile, is a joint venture between GML Estates, its parent Orana Group and Land Securities. Construction is on schedule for an Easter 2007 opening.
The Outlet is only the first phase of the 1.2 million sq ft Bridgewater Park scheme, located at the Banbridge exit of the A1 Euroroute. Planning permission has already been granted for the second phase which will include a 430,571-sq ft retail park.
In addition the next phase will provide 2,000 more parking spaces bringing the total to 3,500, a 60-bedroom hotel, drive-thru restaurant and petrol filling station. The completed investment value of the project is now put at over £200m.
